Training Tip: Dumbbells vs. Machines


Let’s face, humans are animals, designed by evolution for survival in the wild. Think about what your ‘caveman you’ would do. Would he be sitting on a shoulder press machine with a limited range of movement? NO. He’d be hunting and killing wild animals, picking up and carrying carcasses, etc. There’s nothing ‘limited’ about those movement. The closer you stick with your ‘genetic blue print’ both inside the gym and out the greater the benefits you’ll see. Machines provide the user with a fixed pattern of movement which tends to cut out the ‘middle man’, which is the process of picking up the weight, walking with it, hoisting it, etc. So next time the glint of a shiny new machine catches your eye, remember …
