Supplement Tip: Improving Magnesium Absorption

Many consider magnesium a ‘master mineral’, due to its involvement in over 300 enzymes (cellular metabolic processes). Many of us are magnesium deficient, which is easily revealed with a blood test. If this is the case, a magnesium supplement will be of great help. Unfortunately, oral magnesium is not easily absorbed by the body. Therefore, it is best to use transdermal ‘magnesium oil’ which is applied to the skin. Another alternative is to take a magnesium salt bath. The use of the skin to absorb the magnesium, rather than the digestive tract will not only drastically improve the utilisation of the magnesium, but also may avoid the digestive irritation issues some people experience with oral magnesium supplements.
